Swampfest – Waycross, GA
April 1-2, 2011
On the first weekend in April, drive down to Waycross, Georgia to join in on the 7th Annual Swampfest. This gathering of festival goers will great food and awesome entertainment. And if you’d like, maybe you can get in on the hot dog eating contest. For the younger ones with a sweeter taste, there’s a Dilly Bar eating and a Coca-Cola chugging contest, all with $100 first prizes.
For entertainment we would recommend the Gator Show on Saturday Morning; because what’s a Swampfest without gators? Another favorite is Okefenokee Joe, wildlife educator and legendary folk hero. Joe has packed his guitar and several of his friendly snakes for this trip to southeast Georgia. There will also be plenty of food, music, demonstrations, arts and crafts at this year’s event. And it all finishes with a spectacular fireworks show on Saturday night. For a full schedule of events, visit the Swampfest website.
The festival is from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturday at the intersection of Elizabeth and Pendleton Streets in downtown Waycross.
