Events for the 2011 Egg Scramble Jamboree begin on Saturday, March 26th with the pageant at the Lamar High School Cafeteria.  The carnival begins on Wednesday, March 30th and continues through Saturday night.

“We’re excited about the upcoming Egg Scramble Jamboree and hope everyone will be coming out to the event,” said Lamar Mayor Bobby Hudson. “This is a long-standing tradition in Lamar, and the Town Council wishes everyone will have a great time. We have a small town atmosphere with a big city flair.” (scnow.com)

On the second weekend in April fine artists fill Bayfront Park, downtown Miami’s premiere outdoor venue with an outdoor art exhibition destined to be a staple for years to come. Art in the Park Miami, showcases some the best contemporary fine art and craft from around the country. We’re looking forward to an incredible inaugural show. This year, Art in the Park Miami will follow The Coconut Grove Arts Festival and Art Basel, rounding out Southern Florida’s critically acclaimed season of exhilarating, prominent art fairs.

If you’re in the mood for beautiful street cars and friendly auto enthusiast, you’ll find it at Thunder Road.  With twelve special classes, including  Best Moonshine Runner, this is going to be one amazing gathering of gears.  But Thunder Road is so much more than just a car and truck show.

Thunder Road 2011 has great entertainment, wonderful food and, of course, the popular hillbilly pageants.  This year’s entertainment will include the Thunder Road Band and songwriter/musician, Russ Roberts.  The pageants include Itty Bitty Hillbilly (birth to 4), Lil’ Mss Daisy & Mr. Doodyville (5-12), Miss Ellie-May (13-19), and Ms. Belle & Hard Headed Hillbilly (20 and older).  Come out and see who takes this year’s honors as hillbilly pageant winners.

On the first weekend in April, drive down to Waycross, Georgia to join in on the 7th Annual Swampfest. This gathering of festival goers will great food and awesome entertainment. And if you’d like, maybe you can get in on the hot dog eating contest. For the younger ones with a sweeter taste, there’s a Dilly Bar eating and a Coca-Cola chugging contest, all with $100 first prizes.

For entertainment we would recommend the Gator Show on Saturday Morning; because what’s a Swampfest without gators? Another favorite is Okefenokee Joe, wildlife educator and legendary folk hero. Joe has packed his guitar and several of his friendly snakes for this trip to southeast Georgia. There will also be plenty of food, music, demonstrations, arts and crafts at this year’s event. The Wilmington Herb & Garden Fair is celebrating the 20th anniversary of this annual spring event.  Speakers and instructors will be on hand to share their expertise on gardening, cooking, nature and more.  The plant and garden sale offers excellent prices on an array of plants, art, wine, good and crafts.  There will be annuals, perennials, garden vegetables, shrubs and trees for sale.  There’s even a nature hike.  And for the hungry, food and beverages are available at the fair.

Admission is only $5, under 15 are free with an accompanying participant.  Classes are included as a part of admission, with the exception of the cooking classes.  Cooking classes are an additional $10 in order to include a special lunch.  Also, cooking classes are limited to only 25 participants.

The Florida International Air Show is back and bigger than ever! High-speed military jets and acrobatic performers will roar into Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda on March 26 and 27. This year’s show offers new and unique performers, exhibits and displays.

Spectators can look forward to a feature performance by the new Heavy Metal Jet Team piloted by Top Guns, world-record holders and former Thunderbird pilots. Another must-see performance is the F-22 Raptor, the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft. The F-22 cannot be matched by any known or projected fighter aircraftand will be on display for close-up viewing as well.

Come meet true American heroes! Known for their famous raid during World War II, three of the five surviving members of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders will be featured guests and available to meet and sign autographs with fans. The Doolittle Raid took place in 1942 and was known as a mission that changed the war.  The Tokyo Raid was once called “one of the most courageous deeds in military history”.

Finally, don’t miss seeing exciting and death-defying stunts performed by some of the best pilots in the business. Enjoy expanded aircraft exhibits, displays, a kids’ area, and refreshments. Join us for one of the biggest and best Air Shows in the country.

The 2011 Florida International Air Show is celebrating its 31st year and will trace the history of aviation with acts from many of the top aerobatic pilots in the world. This year’s show will be filled with amazing demonstrations in the air and on the ground. Attendees will enjoy seeing aircraft dating from before World War II to the present day tactical fighters.

The Florida International Air Show takes place at the Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda. One day general admission tickets are $18, children 2-12 are $5.  Ticket purchases and upgrades are available on the website.  Event parking is free and gates open at 9:00 am each morning. Carry-in packages, coolers, and pets are not permitted. Smoking is not allowed inside the gates. All acts may not appear due to circumstances beyond control of the Florida International Air Show.

The Air Show benefits dozens of charities throughout Southwest Florida — The Florida International Air Show is a not-for-profit corporation, and is an all-volunteer organization raising more than $2.5 million for Southwest Florida working charities.

This seventh annual civil war reenactment is the premier kick-off event for the Charleston Sesquentenial Commemoration.  Registration takes place on Thursday from noon to 11:00 pm.  Friday starts the event with the Living History Education Program.  Local school children will be in attendance to view various demonstrations of Civil War era life.  Reveille is at 7:00 am sharp on Saturday but the camps don’t open to spectators until 9:00 am.

Events include:

• Tactical battle on Saturday from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm,
• Reenacters’ barbecue dinner on Saturday night,
• Period ball with the 97th Regimental String Band,
• Scripted battle on Sunday at 1:30 pm,
• Live history demonstrations,
• Gullah reenactors and demonstrations,
• Storytelling,
• Artillery demonstration,
• Church service,
• and Plenty of live music.

The feature event on this year’s gathering is a reenacted naval landing.  This begins at 4:00 pm on Saturday.  It’s a one of a kind event that has never been done before as part of a civil war reenactment in South Carolina.  Be sure not to miss this special addition.

Camping sites are available.  Pets and animal are not allowed with the exception of horses entered as part of the calvary reenactments.  Admission is $10, children 5 to 12 are $5 and under 5 are free.
